On the eve of my 18th birthday, I sit by my computer eating a popcicle, trying to live back every moment of my legal childhood. It feels like it is disappearing forever. Tomorrow I will be an adult, released from old rules and set into new ones. The thought of that makes me feel terrible. I don't want to grow up! I want to live under the care of my family and my small high school, in my small town with my friends. My vision of freedom and happiness comes from the summer, when I was without a schedule and did as I pleased. I travelled everywhere with my friends, but we could always be rescued by our parents. I miss staying at the beach from dawn til dusk. I miss movie-hopping and sleepovers, and Halo 2 and skateboard adventures. Now I have a schedule. I have no time for the beach. I no longer need to sneak into theaters, and I don't do sleepovers anymore. Sleepovers became a necessity when someone was too drunk to go home. Halo is dying, and everyone has a car and a license. No need to travel by foot or skateboard.

I guess things won't really be that different, but passing that barrier into adulthood scares me. In three days, I will get rejected from Pomona, which means I will have to start my other college applications. I guess it's good that my brithday and Christmas are close together. Christmas will hopefully cheer me up from being an adult.

In the end, I just don't want the responsibility of the adult. Peter Pan, you are my idol.

Tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of my life. Maybe I can be just a little late.

There's these three guys walking on the beach, a spic, a white guy, and a nigger. They find this pot, rub it, and a genie comes out. The genie says you can wish for whatever you want. So he asks the Mexican what he wants, and he says "I want all my people in America to be happy and free, and in Mexico." So the genie goes poof. It's done. Then he says to the nigger, "What do you want?" And the nigger says "I want all my nigger brothers to be happy and free and back in Africa." So the genie goes poof. And they're all back in Africa. So he says to the white guy, "What's your one wish?" And the white guy says, "Wait, you mean to tell me that all the spics and niggers are out of America?" The genie goes "yeah," and the white guy says, "uh, I'll have a Coke, then."
